About the Job:

This position typically pays $15.00 hour.

A Day in the Life:

  • Rebuild, replace and/or repair major parts on cars and light trucks, heavy duty trucks, and heavy equipment (e.g., exhaust system, fuel injection, electrical systems, transmission, drive train, mechanical and air suspension, charging systems, air and hydraulic brakes)
  • Performs minor repairs or other related mechanical work (e.g., adjusts valves; changes and repairs all types of tires; cleans or replaces diesel injectors; repairs or replaces hydraulic components
  • Install snowplow blades and make repairs on damaged plow assemblies
  • Perform minor body repair work
  • Maintain Equipment Management System (EMS) records on parts used and work performed on equipment and orders and/or picks up parts
  • Service and repair of highway equipment in the field; use welding equipment to straighten and fabricate metal
  • Recognize performance issues for both gas and diesel engines and properly diagnose them
  • Inspect vehicles/equipment for damage
  • Attend appropriate training school, safety meetings, mechanic meetings or related meetings
  • Order and/or pick up parts when required by supervisor
  • Provide service and repair of vehicles and equipment on emergency basis
  • Perform other related maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Experience in hydraulic maintenance, diagnostics, and repair
  • Knowledge of and ability to use tools associated with vehicle and motorized equipment repair
  • Working knowledge of appropriate safety practices associated with repair and maintenance heavy equipment, vehicles and/or motorized equipment
  • Knowledge of heavy and light duty vehicle and equipment repair
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and how do properly diagnosis and repair
  • Skill in operating hand & power tools related to repair & maintenance of vehicles & equipment
  • Ability to understand system of mechanical procedures
  • Ability to use welding and steel cutting equipment
  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and to complete records and reports
  • Ability to use repair manuals and parts catalogues
  • Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly
  • Ability to follow directions and work as a part of a team
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team
