About Westville Correctional Facility

The Westville Correctional Facility is a multi-level security correctional facility for adult males. The Westville Correctional Facility is located in Westville, Indiana.

 

Role Overview

Your work is complex and varied with tasks related to a specific trade field such as electrical (working with high voltage electrical service, repairs to electrical devices, safety checks of electrical equipment, and installations of electrical power equipment) or plumbing (working with high/low-pressure steam lines, sewers, and water lines). Your work will include the use of equipment specific to the skill trade field, the use of computers, the supervision of employees, maintaining inventories, and purchasing supplies and equipment.  As the Maintenance Foreman, you will receive general work instructions in carrying out tasks. You must make decisions based on established policies/procedures of the department and facility without the involvement of supervision. Your work is reviewed by department supervision to ensure compliance with State, Local and departmental codes, regulations, and policies. Errors in judgment could result in loss of life and/or a major inconvenience to the facility. You will be expected to partner with agency personnel and related stakeholders working towards the completion of assigned functions. 

 

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:      

  • Solicit cost estimates or cost proposals. 
  • Estimate costs and work hours for maintenance projects. 
  • Oversee and participates in preventive maintenance and repairs of facilities 
  • Maintain accountability of materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles. 
  • Ensure compliance, of self and assigned personnel, with all appropriate protective and safety requirements  
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development. 
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.  Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
  • Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need for Success:

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • Broad knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades. 
  • Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites. 
  • Ability to fill in for other foreman to ensure the operation of the department. 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other remediation plans and documents. 
  • Thorough knowledge of standard practices, processes, materials, procedures, and the ability to use tools and equipment of the various trades, such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical. 
  • Thorough knowledge of the OSHA standards, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), occupational hazards and safety precautions required of the various trade areas. 
  • Ability to plan and estimate project proposals in terms of equipment, man hours and costs. 
  • Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.  
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow. 
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets. 
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

This role must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment: 

  • Must have and maintain a valid  Driver’s License. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
