About the Indiana Veterans’ Home:

Salary Information:
The starting salary for this position starts at $35,568.00 but is commensurate with experience and education.
 

About the Job:

Incumbent functions as an advanced psychiatric social worker. Incumbent reports to the Director of Social Services at the Indiana Veterans’ Home assisting in the overall operation of the department.

A Day in the Life:

  • Works independently and in conjunction with the interdisciplinary care team in an effort to meet resident behavioral, psychosocial, and physical needs.
  • Complete and maintain required documentation in the clinical record.
  • Interpret, promote, advocate and protect resident rights, privacy, dignity, and freedom of choice.
  • Refer residents to and provide ongoing communication with community providers such as those for mental health and hospice care.
  • Evaluates treatment plan formulation and effectiveness and make changes within social services as necessary
  • Makes recommendations to the department director regarding the departmental procedure and policy changes
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with residents and their families.
  • Establish and maintain residents’ plan of care
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss resident needs
  • Complete resident cognitive, mood, and behavioral assessments timely as assigned
  • Address resident day to day behavioral and social needs
  • Performs related work as required

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Completion of bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related human services field.
  • Thorough knowledge of community social service agencies and ability to supervise and plan the coordination of social service programs with other related agencies
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of psychiatric social work including social adjustment, mental illness, group counseling work, and community placement
  • Working knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines for the care, treatment, and rights of the mentally ill
  • Working knowledge of the role of other treatment disciplines and the ability to effectively coordinate interdisciplinary approaches to treatment
  • Ability to assume responsibility for agency-wide social services programs in absence of the director
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and orally
  • Ability to analyze program needs and effectiveness and formulate plans for change to more adequately carry out the mission of department

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
