About the Indiana Veteran's Home

The Indiana Veterans’ Home, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, is the only long term care facility in Indiana dedicated to serving veterans and their spouses.  We provide a beautiful, healthy and home-like environment for veterans and their spouses to live. Residents enjoy a variety of onsite and offsite activities, excellent health care, nutritious homemade meals and a rich history that only a facility such as IVH can provide. 



Salary for this position is commensurate with education and experience.

About the Job

The Indiana Veterans' Home is currently seeking a Dietitian to ensure the nutritional needs of residents are being met, and the food is served under safe and sanitary conditions. Performs duties under minimal supervision and reports directly to the Director of Nursing.

A Day in the Life
  • Obtains food and beverage preferences of residents on admission
  • Completes nutritional assessments on admission and when member has significant change
  • Documents nutritional progress notes within observation period for completion of MDS
  • Completes MDS within appropriate time frame
  • Writes measurable goals for nutrition-related problems and updates goals as needed
  • Monitors weekly and monthly weights, and documents significant or gradual weight loss
  • Recommends nutritional interventions for weight loss and other problems that affect nutritional status
  • Attends Patient at Risk meeting
  • Attends all care plan meetings scheduled regarding assigned residents
  • Completes monthly QA reports and submits to the Supervisor
  • Provides in-service training as assigned for Food Service staff
  • Provides nutritional consultation as needed for residents
  • Observes members during meal time for proper documentation
  • Reports inappropriate sanitation concerns to the Food Service Director or supervisors
  • Reports quality of all food service concerns to the Food Service Director
  • Other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food and Nutrition or related field
What You Need For Sucess
  • Must be a Registered Dietitian and be able to function as and effective member of a team.
  • Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Specialized knowledge of the principles, techniques and terminology of modern dietetics and institutional management gained through experience and formal education typically after a baccalaureate degree;
  • Working knowledge of modern methods, materials and equipment used in quantity food service and the care necessary to conserve all resources;
  • Ability to plan menus and oversee personnel in modified and regular diet preparation and service;
  • Ability to conduct food service and/or nutrition related training programs as needed;
  • Ability to interact with treatment team, medical and administrative staff and patients.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
