About the Indiana Veterans' Home

The Indiana Veterans' Home is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. Originally created to care for veterans of the Civil War, the Indiana Veterans’ Home welcomed its first resident in 1896. Located on 250+ acres in West Lafayette, IVH is a full-service care facility offering a complete array of services for residents.

The mission of the Indiana Veterans' Home is to honor Indiana's veterans and their spouses by providing the highest level of care in a therapeutic home-like environment, enhancing health and yielding optimal quality of life. To do this and meet the unique needs of these heroes and their families, we deliver compassionate and comprehensive skilled care while integrating arts and cultural programming and preserving the rich history of the Home.

 

Role Overview

Functions as the marketing and sales counselor for the Indiana Veterans’ Home.  The primary purpose of your position is to build and grow the census, provide prospective residents and/or responsible parties with appropriate information and assistance, and develop a diverse range of marketing projects to enhance the growth of IVH. This position is essential to the overall mission of the agency through marketing the facility to ensure awareness of those who qualify for services and becoming a valuable resource to the local and veteran community. The incumbent functions independently, reporting to the Director of Admissions.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key member of the facility sales team.
  • Extensive external marketing to the community, hospitals, area physicians, and other referral sources on a weekly basis
  • Ensures 80% of time is spent outside the building on census development in the local market.
  • Meet weekly and monthly marketing and admission goals
  • Maintains contact with current referral sources while working to develop new sources of referrals
  • Conducts effective sales calls with designated targeted referral sources
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and tracking of customer satisfaction surveys
  • Schedules and attends senior, veteran, and job fairs to outreach for IVH
  • Performs related duties as required

 

Job Requirements

  • Ability to sell long term care units
  • Long-Standing Relationships with regional healthcare organizations.
  • Experience with physician and hospital staff relationship development
  • Method-based sales, marketing experience with regard to generating referral sources
  • Has established relationships with local social workers and discharge planners
  • Excellent presentation and relationship building skills
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in long-term care sales/marketing/insurance preferred
  • Must be able to travel 80% of the time on day trips to local health care institutions.
  • Knowledge of long-term care, Veterans’ Affairs, and other healthcare and retirement/disability programs or funding
  • Extensive knowledge of the admissions program including Medicaid/Medicare and insurance billing processes
  • Extensive knowledge of the admissions processes, all source materials and references, related compliance procedures, and other regulatory requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of the organization of the IVH and of State and Federal agencies dealing with the programs
  • Ability to develop and maintain a strong marketing program promoting awareness of the IVH to the majority of Indiana Residents and Veterans
  • Working knowledge of accounting and budget principles
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, interpret, correlate, and solve practical problems utilizing a variety of concrete variables where standardization exists and make recommendations on implementation in current programs
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing as well as read and interpret a variety of instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with Federal and State agencies, other facility social workers, and members of the community
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of people
  • Must possess basic computer skills and ability to learn/utilize software necessary to complete job duties

 

 

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Establish program objectives, KPIs, and actions to achieve them.
  • Develop, update, and monitor all policies and procedures related to the program area.
  • Interpret and explain policies, rules, regulations, or laws to leadership or customers.
  • Implement corrective action plans to solve program problems.
  • Analyze, prepare, and disseminate monthly and annual program reports.
  • Review budget and make budgetary recommendations to improve the program area finances.
  • Ensure program requirements meet federal and state policies and grants compliance.
  • Assist in the development and train employees or agency consultants on program requirements and usage.
  • Coordinator and deliver communication plans and communications.
  • Serve as a liaison between agency and other state and federal agencies.
  • Serve on management committees or other governing boards.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.  Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You'll Need for Success:

The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either  

  • a Master’s Degree with 1+ years of experience, or  
  • a Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years of experience, or  
  • a Associate’s Degree with 5+ years of experience, or 
  • at least 7+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role. 

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Specialized knowledge in program subject matter obtained through experience and/or education. 
  • Specialized knowledge of program area including pertinent rules and regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of all source materials and references including federal and state laws governing the programs.
  • Ability to develop and implement new principles and policies and discern any far-reaching implications.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of accounting and budget principles.
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
