About the Indiana Veterans' Home
The Indiana Veterans' Home, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, is the only long term care facility in Indiana dedicated to serving veterans and their spouses. We provide a beautiful, healthy and home like environment for veterans and their spouses to live. Residents enjoy a variety of onsite and offsite activities, excellent health care, and a rich history that only a facility such as IVH can provide.
Salary
The salary for this position is based on work experience.
As a Grounds Specialist you perform a wide variety of routine tasks to assist in the maintenance of facilities, equipment, roads and grounds
- Serves as a general maintenance person to inspect and maintain all facilities, grounds, and equipment
- Performs routine carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
- Ensures all employees are properly trained to operate equipment and are properly educated to follow established safety policies and procedures.
- Directs, assists, and supports recreational special events as needed
- Assists with purchasing and inventory of incoming supplies, materials, and repair parts.
- Responsible for major and minor equipment, vehicle, and vessel repairs.
- Maintains grounds which may include mowing, weeding, aerating, spraying, fertilizing, and tree trimming or removal.
- Responsible for maintaining all roads such as painting, snow plowing, sanding and salting, repaving, or repairing.
- Responsible for providing public safety on property, provide assistance in an emergency, or aid in rescue of accident victims.
- Assists law enforcement with investigation of illegal activities on properties.
- May assist and perform wildlife resource management.
- May supervise, train, and direct offender work crews, assigning duties, planning and directing daily work assignments.
- May act as a flagger along roads to warn motorists.
- A high school diploma or GED;
- Valid Indiana driver's license.
- Working knowledge of, and ability to apply, general maintenance practices;
- Working knowledge of, an ability to use skills in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Ability to a wide array of hand and power tools.
- Ability to determine malfunctions of electrical and mechanical equipment and make simple repairs.
- Ability to operate a variety of vehicles, vessels, and large equipment.
- Ability to do basic math and bookeeping for use in property operations.
