About the Indiana Veteran's Home:

The Indiana Veterans' Home is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. Originally created to care for veterans of the Civil War, the Indiana Veterans’ Home welcomed its first resident in 1896. Located on 250+ acres in West Lafayette, IVH is a full-service care facility offering a complete array of services for residents.

About the Job:

As the Dietitian Director, you will ensure the nutritional needs of IVH residents are being met and food is served under safe and sanitary conditions.  You will have Administrative responsibility over the food service operations; managing food service staff and the IVH nutritional care programs.


A Day in the Life:

  • Manage and direct food service department in accordance with federal and state regulatory guidelines ensuring kitchen operations are ran efficiently
  • Develop an annual food service budget, with supporting justification, to ensure cost effective management of resources
  • Completes nutritional assessments on admission and when member has significant change
  • Attend all resident care plan meetings and plan menus
  • Writes measurable goals for nutrition-related problems and updates goals as needed
  • Monitors weekly and monthly weights of residents and documents significant or gradual weight loss
  • Develop long and short term goals, policies and procedures and standard of dietary service
  • Establishes Food Service policies and procedures in order to comply with standards set by the VA, State Health Department and other regulatory agencies, to include those for personnel, quality, methods, materials, equipment and time.
  • Provides nutrional consultation as needed for residents

What You'll Need for Success:

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • Registered by the commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Knowledge of institutional kitchen equipment and knowledge of federal and state regulations
  • Extensive Knowledge of the priniciples, techniques and terminology of modern institutional long term care service management, inlcuding food nutrional values and costs
  • Specialized knowledge of principles, terminology of modern dietetics and institutional management
  • Knolwedge of food quality and conformity to specified standards
  • Knowledge of menu preparation
  • Ability to train, instruct, supervise food service personnel and to conduct inservice trainings
  • Ability to interact and communicate with a variety of personnel, patients, families, outside officials and vendors

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
