About the Indiana Veterans' Home:
The Indiana Veterans' Home is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. Originally created to care for veterans of the Civil War, the Indiana Veterans’ Home welcomed its first resident in 1896. Located on 250+ acres in West Lafayette, IVH is a full-service care facility offering a complete array of services for residents.

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $45,422.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Collects and measures specimens to determine oxygen levels, carbon dioxide, and other gases.
  • Measures the lung capacity of patients to determine any impaired respiratory functions.
  • Administers treatment prescribed by a physician for the care of patients with abnormalities associated with breathing.
  • Assumes responsibility for respiratory care treatments.
  • Follows general goals and objectives for respiratory program services.
  • Reviews and follows quality assurance procedures established for all respiratory program services.
  • Completes compiling and maintaining rehabilitation treatment team records, reports, and statistical data.
  • Follows recommendations regarding departmental procedures and policy changes.
  • Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

  • Must have and hold a valid Certified Respiratory Therapist License from Indiana.
  • Must have a Technical Certificate or an Associate's Degree from an educational program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of respiratory therapy principles, practices, and techniques and their application to individual activities.
  • Advanced knowledge of causes, symptoms, and nature of various respiratory illnesses and the application of treatment plans.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and accreditation/certification standards that affect the delivery of respiratory services.
  • Working knowledge of administrative and personnel management techniques related to the adequate supervision and direction of programs.
  • Ability to formulate and implement treatment plans and respiratory programs and ensure their effectiveness.
  • Ability to follow respiratory intervention programs which best meet the patient's needs.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
