Role Overview:
This position will serve as an Engineering Intern for the CPM Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support. The objective of the position is to provide valuable learning experience for the intern, as well as to assist the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities. The Intern will report to the Vincennes District Design Manager. The Intern will also assist Vincennes District Design in delivering INDOT Capital Program Projects.
Hourly Rate:
The hourly wage for this position traditionally starts at $16.24 per hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24 per hour for those with an earned bachelor’s degree.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Assist professional engineers in preparing roadway and bridge design plans.
- Using MicroStation CADD software to draw plans.
- Assist in taking field notes, necessary for plans construction.
- Researching design standards for incorporation into the plans.
- Assist in preparing hydraulic analysis for inclusion in the plans.
- Estimate project costs to include:
- Using INDOT estimating software.
- Using Microsoft Office Excel to tabulate quantities.
- Prepare support documentation for contract plans to include:
- Running Crash software to support design decisions.
- Running Safety analysis software to support design decisions.
- Researching Special Provisions to add to contract plans.
- Assist in preparing environmental permits to complete contract documents.
- Review plans and other contract documents for accuracy.
- Attend meetings and seminars as necessary.

What You'll Need for Success:
- Working toward a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Possess elementary Computer Aided Drafting and Design skills.
- Civil engineering student at an accredited college
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
