About the Job:

This position is responsible for designing, developing and supporting web-based applications and scripting using PYTHON, HTML5, and develops data processing applications that access PostgreSQL/MySQL databases using PL/pgSQL (Procedural Language/Postgres Structured Query Language). The developer will work with engineering staff to understand the end user’s requirements and develop software applications that satisfy those needs. This position integrates and automates tasks and information flows associated with the INDOT Traffic Management and Intelligent Transportation Systems. The Applications Developer-Senior reports to the Intelligent Transportation Systems Director 

A Day in the Life:

•    Develop application code utilizing current development tools.
•    Interpret application requirements into system design and coding specifications.
•    Become knowledgeable with business function that is being automated.
•    Incorporate system security and database security as identified.
•    Work with users to determine requirements for new applications that will be developed in-house.
•    Create system documentation and design documents.
•    Develop training material and procedures that will be used by end users when needed.
•    Provides ongoing enhancement to new system as well as existing systems.

What You'll Need for Success:

•    Three (3) years work experience in the development and support of Information Technology applications
•    Excellent knowledge of using APIs and scripting languages to access and move data.
•    Excellent knowledge of HTML5.
•    Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL database or LAMP (Linux,Apache, MySQL, PHP PYTHON).
•    Advanced knowledge of Apache HTTP Server.
•    Advanced knowledge of Linux OS.
•    Advanced knowledge working with PostgreSQL and views
•    Advanced knowledge programming in Postgres PL/SQL
•    Advanced knowledge in programming Postgresdatabase triggers 
•    Advanced knowledge with designing and developing database function, stored procedures and packages.
•    Advanced  knowledge in SQL Data Structures.
•    Experience in Object-oriented programming
•    Experience in jQuery preferred
•    Experience working with users identifying needs and applying to new applications.
•    Experience working with systems analyst in a team environment.
•    Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 
•    Experience designing, coding, testing, and implementing new applications. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
