The Indiana State Park Inns are one of the oldest state parks lodging systems in the country. We proudly operate seven unique and beautiful facilities throughout our great state of Indiana that offer a unique experience for guests to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature and make memories naturally!
Nestled in Spencer, Indiana, Canyon Inn is located within McCormick’s Creek State Park, Indiana’s oldest State Park, blending beautiful scenery and history together for an unforgettable experience. The Inn features 76 guest rooms, the Canyon Inn Restaurant, an outdoor pool, and banquet/conference space.
Role Overview:
This position is responsible for landscaping and maintaining the property grounds. The incumbent of this position typically performs a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: planting, weeding, watering, and pruning. The incumbent of this position can expect to work 3-4 days per week.
Salary Statement:
The hourly rate for this position starts at a minimum of $12.65 per hour.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Operate powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws.
- Mow and edge lawns, using power mowers and edgers.
- Shovel snow from walks, driveways, and parking lots, and spread salt in those areas.
- Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, and removing thatch, and trimming and edging around flower beds, walks, and walls.
- Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge and brush trimmers, and axes.
- Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges, using shears, pruners, or chainsaws.
- Gather and remove litter.
- Maintain and repair tools, equipment, and structures such as buildings, greenhouses, fences, and benches, using hand and power tools.
- Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, burial sites, and other grounds features.
- Water lawns, trees, and plants, using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans.
- Trim and pick flowers and clean flower beds.
- Rake, mulch, and compost leaves.
- Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers and foliage.
- Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, and shrubs, and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools.
- Decorate gardens with stones and plants.

What You'll Need for Success:
- This role should expect to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

- Individuals may experience working directly with offenders.
- May be required to travel to additional properties.
- May perform duties in a variety of different environments, including an office environment, field environment, rugged terrain, and various adverse weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, sleet, etc.).
- May be required to work around potentially dangerous heavy equipment (e.g. tractors, disks, mowers, planters, etc.).

Indiana State Park Inns supplements its full-time workforce with intermittent or part-time employees to effectively manage the workload, and plan for employee absences, and other situations. Management will determine which positions are part-time and which are considered intermittent. Part-time and intermittent employees enjoy flexible scheduling, and opportunities to learn new skills, and your workplace will be one of the most beautiful places in Indiana!
Part-time: Employees who work 30-36 hours per week and are placed on a part-time position. These positions hours may vary per week depending on the business needs and staffing levels within the operations. They will be eligible for a limited benefits package which includes medical insurance, paid time off, and new parent leave.
Intermittent: Employees who work less than 30 hours per week are placed in intermittent positions. Intermittent employees are not eligible for benefits.
