Role Overview:
This position is the Design Manager for In-House Services for the Seymour Capital Program Department. This position will be expected to supervise and guide other design staff as well as to review and develop detailed bridge, road, traffic, and maintenance design plans for INDOT as well as conducting feasibility studies and completing cost analysis to ensure the proposed improvement designs are sound.You and your staff will work with contractors to create detailed directions and explanations to ensure scope of work is understood. Generate detailed drawings using Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software and manutal drafting techniques, drawings may include: drainage, traffic maintenance, traffic control, general roadway structures, right-of-way, signals, landscaping, and lighting. In addition to creating drawing using CADD you will also keep current in CADD techniques, computer publications, attend technology and design practices by participating in training seminars. This role will operate a state vehicle to travel to projects and conduct field work or reviews as necessary.
Salary:
This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $93,002.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

This position is located in INDOT’s Seymour District, Capital Program Department.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Participate in the development of goals for the division’s strategic plan, assists in preparing division budgets, and lead an engineering team.
- Monitor programs to ensure policy and best practices are actively deployed.
- The Highway Engineer Supervisor assures accurate and timely updating of management information systems as they relate to the delivery of the program, and ensures their business rules, policies, and procedures are implemented and maintained as standard business practice in their designated work environments.
- Some essential functions of this position may be performed onsite at the agency’s worksite or other assigned worksites while some essential functions of this position may be eligible for work from home authorization in accordance with policy. Remote work authorization is not automatic and is dependent upon operational needs and agency approval.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
- Must have a Professional Engineer license in Indiana.
- Must have an Indiana driver’s license.
- Must be able to read and interpret various contracts, plans, laws, administrative rules, and regulations.
- Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
- Basic knowledge of the agency.
- Must be able to read and interpret specifications, standards, and policies and apply them to operations.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, able to build relationships and establish credibility.
- Ability to work with internal and external customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
