The Psychologist is responsible for providing clinical psychological services in the assessment and treatment of patients diagnosed with severe mental illness and/or developmental disabilities served by the state operated facilities.  This role will be expected to work collaboratively with other psychologists and interdisciplinary treatment staff to deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions and function as an agent of hope to continuously assess obstacles to discharge and community placement. 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Administers Initial and Annual Psychological Assessments for all patients on their assigned units.
  • Performs psychological testing, scoring, interpretation and written reports as necessary.
  • Participates in Clinical Treatment meetings as requested.
  • Provides educational/training programs and initiatives both at the departmental and facility level.
  • Provides evidence-based, recovery oriented therapeutic interventions to patients on assigned Units in individual and/or group format.
  • Maintains a therapeutic alliance with the patient and family/caregivers and facilitates family therapy as needed to increase dialog or resolve issues impeding patient progress and discharge planning.
  • Provides evidence-based therapeutic and or psychoeducational interventions for campus-wide active treatment groups as assigned.
  • Completes documentation of all aspects of patient contact per SOF, departmental and HIPPA guidelines.
  • Provides recommendations for specialized psychological evaluation and treatment according to the goals outlined in the master treatment plan.
  • Ensures patient involvement and participation in treatment planning and implementation.
  • Participates in ongoing education and training activities both at the hospital and in the community to meet professional licensure continuing education requirements.

Preferred Experience:
  • Possess a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from a regionally accredited university.
  • Must hold a valid license as a psychologist with HSPP designation by the Indiana State Psychology Board.
  • Knowledge of psychological theory, practice, and applicable laws pertaining to the practice of psychology in Indiana.
  • Ability to utilize various sources of data to determine changing clinical needs of hospital population and the ability to plan and or alter psychological practice accordingly.
  • Ability to administer, interpret, and incorporate psychological assessment materials to address salient diagnostic and treatment issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to staff, patients, courts and other outside entities.
  • Capacity for establishing positive working relationships among all segments of hospital community.
  • Ability to function creatively in an interdisciplinary milieu in a manner which embodies the recovery-based philosophy and maximizes the positive contribution of psychological knowledge.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the professional ethical guidelines delineated by the American Psychological Association.
  • Knowledge of the relevant State of Indiana rules and statutes and HIPAA regulations pertaining to patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to supervise Master’s Level clinicians and practicum students, if applicable.
  • Ability to perform essential duties with minimal supervision.
