About the Richmond State Hospital:

Richmond State Hospital is about the people we serve and the community relationships we have developed dating back to 1890. Richmond State Hospital is a public behavioral health facility operated by the state of Indiana and one of six state psychiatric hospitals within the Family and Social Services Administration Division of Mental Health and Addiction. As part of a newly integrated system of state psychiatric hospitals, we serve consumers across the state as the Eastern Center of Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Services.

Salary Information:

Starting pay for this position is $14.55/hour.

 

About the Job:

As the Behavioral Health Recovery Attendant, you will accurately administer authorized treatments, conduct, and assist with nursing programs, and perform a variety of tasks associated with the daily care and treatment of patients. You will work under the clinical supervision of a licensed nurse to provide patient care, helping patients meet their physical and emotional needs.

A Day in the Life:

 

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Carry out or assist with the physical care of patients including lifting items of heavy weight, and/or other activities of daily living per treatment plan objectives and goals.
  • Initiate and participate in therapeutic interventions by using principles of de-escalation, redirection and approved behavioral intervention techniques for prevention and management of behavior.
  • Report side effects of medications to RN.     
  • Recognize the potential need for a prn medication and reports the need to RN. 
  • Escort patients to and from therapies, dining area and other areas of the hospital for treatment and programming.
  • Escort and/or drive patients to off-grounds appointments and activities.
  • Observe patients’ physical condition, accurately documents, and reports changes to the RN.
  • Appropriately apply skills in psychosocial care of patients, encourages patients, and interact with them to socialize and participate in activities and programming.
  • Recognize and demonstrate the ability to handle psychiatric emergencies and intervenes appropriately.
  • Follow safety standards and precautions, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to set appropriate healthy boundaries and limitations according to individual treatment plans.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • High school diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE). 
  • Six (6) months successful work experience in a healthcare setting or hold a valid Indiana CNA certification preferred.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR certification and demonstrate ability to perform techniques.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Good writing skills to appropriately document reports.
  • Ability to build relationships with employees, support services and the public.

This person must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:

  • The ability to successfully pass the behavioral intervention training test.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
