About the Plainfield Correctional Facility:
Plainfield Correctional Facility is a medium-security correctional facility housing adult male members located southwest of Plainfield, Indiana in Hendricks County. The average daily population in this facility is 1,650.

The salary for this position starts at $25,766.00 per year.

About the Job:

The Stores Clerk performs a wide variety of tasks in the supervision and overall operation of stocking, disbursing and controlling goods and supplies.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Authorizes accuracy of all orders received in storeroom and authorizes all goods received;
  • Contacts vendors regarding partial shipments and/or misorders;
  • Maintains detailed inventory records and records of items ordered;
  • Evaluates and recognizes record keeping or storage procedures as necessary;
  • Ensures proper storage procedures and rotation of stock for perishable items;
  • Makes recommendations on purchase of new equipment for warehouse and maintenance required in building;
  • Oversees and assembles equipment received in “knocked down” condition;
  • Ensures security of inmate staff assigned to warehouse;

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Thorough knowledge of requisitioning and disbursing procedures, consumption rates of stored items and inventory control procedures;
  • Thorough knowledge of stock items, their locations and the proper methods of storing a variety of goods and supplies based upon efficient space utilization and a variety of state and federal regulations;
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing;
  • Practical knowledge of state regulations in handling and storing foodstuffs and perishables;
  • Ability to train inmates and staff in proper operation of all equipment and proper methods of storage;
  • Ability to maintain detailed, accurate inventory and purchasing records;
  • Ability to operate forklift, hand-truck and other mechanical equipment in warehouse.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
