Salary Information:

This role starts at a base salary of $37,414.

About the Job:

As a Semi Truck Driver, you will serve as a member of the PEN Product Division of the Indiana Department of Correction (DOC). This role is responsible for the operation of transportation and warehouse equipment in order to provide delivery of goods and services to PEN’s customers.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Operates varied types of equipment to provide delivery of goods or services.
  • Performs loads and unloads at warehouse and customer locations.
  • Performs pre-operation vehicle inspection.
  • Makes minor mechanical and tire repairs.
  • Ensures daily vehicle log, time sheets and work reports are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Performs audit of items shipped to bill of laden before transporting items.
  • Moves products to customer specific locations and ensures customer satisfaction.
  • Supervises offender work crew at correctional facilities and warehouse.

What We're Looking For:

  • Must possess and hold a valid Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) which regulates equipment of size and type required of the position.
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • Must be able to work an adjustable schedule which may include long hours or varied hours depending on the assigned duty.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Specialized knowledge of vehicle laws pertaining to trucks and transportation.
  • Specialized knowledge of highway safety policies for material transfers.
  • Knowledge of proper cargo loading and unloading techniques.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to maneuver tractor-trailer rigs successfully.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow given directions and work as part of a team.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
