Summary/Objective:

The Semi Truck Driver serves as a member of the Indiana Correctional Industries (ICI) Commissary Division of the Indiana Department of Correction (DOC). This role is responsible for the operation of transportation and warehouse equipment in order to provide delivery of goods and services to ICI’s customers.

This position is based at the Plainfield Correctional Facility in Plainfield, IN.

Position Highlights:

  • Only local deliveries (within Indiana)
  • No overnights
  • Paid overtime
  • Only Monday through Friday
Essential Job Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Drives delivery trucks to customer or institutional locations throughout the state delivering goods and/or raw materials;
  • Loads and unloads at warehouse and customer sites. May be required to assist with supervision of offenders in loading and unloading;
  • Moves product wherever necessary at the customer’s location to include stairways, elevators, and within an office environment;
  • Assembles component parts whenever required at customer location;
  • Inspects trucks and loads and abides by required rules in order to meet all safety and vehicle law requirements and regulations;
  • Maintains and distributes proper bills of lading and other shipping documentation;
  • Maintains excellent customer relations;
  • Performs work in accordance with approved health and safety practices

Requirements:
  • Must possess and hold a valid Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) which regulates equipment of size and type required of the position.
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Specialized knowledge of vehicle laws pertaining to trucks and transportation.
  • Specialized knowledge of highway safety policies for material transfers.
  • Knowledge of proper cargo loading and unloading techniques.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to maneuver tractor-trailer rigs successfully.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow given directions and work as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work an adjustable schedule which may include long hours or varied hours depending on the assigned duty.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.

If this is an Intermittent position, the position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
