About Miami Correctional Facility:
As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Miami Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Miami Correctional Facility is a maximum security Correctional facility for adult males. The Miami Correctional Facility is located in Bunker Hill. Miami Correctional Facility is on the southeast corner of the Grissom Aeroplex, just south of Peru, Indiana, in Miami County. Miami Correctional Facility offers several opportunities for work and educational programs, including a program where incarcerated individuals translate reading materials to Braille and a sewing shop that provides items for partner organizations.
Role Overview:
As a Plant Foreman Supervisor, you will serve in an administrative, technical, and supervisory role and will be responsible for the daily manufacturing/service/warehousing operations of the industries operation at the institutional level.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Monitor expenditures, and review and analyze the fiscal status of the operation.
- Assist in the preparation and development of annual and biennial budgets to include building and equipment needs, staffing, trucking requirements, production capacity, and offender workforce needs.
- Monitor and direct necessary corrective measures in the areas of shop productivity, shipping performance, quality reports, performance against standard, material usage, and excessive costs.
- Supervise, instruct, and coordinate the individual shop supervisors to attain a profitable operation.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new industry enterprises.
- Perform analysis of equipment requisitions to determine and establish equipment needs.
- Assist with the development of industry job opportunities which compliment an offender’s prior work experience, educational, and/or vocational training.
- Interact with the offender classification section to effectively utilize qualified offenders within the industries operations at the institution.
- Assist in the development, application, and enforcement of general policies and procedures for the industries operation.
- Perform work in accordance with approved health and safety practices.
- Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
- Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
- Four (4) years of experience in the production of goods or services, or related experience; plus, at least one (1) year of experience as a foreman or supervisor in the production of goods or services, or a related area.
- Knowledge of theories, principles and practices of industrial management and plant facility engineering.
- Knowledge of current production methods, techniques of industrial plant operations, and modern business practices.
- Ability to monitor the financial condition of the operation to include basic accounting and cost principles.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding environmental protection and occupational safety and health hazards.
- Working knowledge of methods and operations used in rehabilitation and resocialization.
- Considerable knowledge of materials management and production/inventory control systems, material flow and storage or raw materials, work- in-progress materials and finished goods storage.
- Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
- Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
- Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
