Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $40,040.00 per year but may be commensurate with education and/or experience.

About the Job:

As the Industrial Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering duties for Indiana Correctional Industries (ICI). In this role, you will establish standards and policies for testing, operating procedures, inspection, and maintenance of equipment in accordance with engineering principles and safety regulations. You will ensure that the plant operations meet the mission and goals of ICI and the Agency.  

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Offer technical and engineering advice relating to industry plant performance, manufacturing processes, product quality, preventive maintenance, shop safety and environmental health management. 
  • Analyze work force utilization, facility industry shop layout, and operational data to determine efficient utilization of offender workers and equipment. 
  • Develop labor manufacturing standards and material usage for new and existing products. 
  • Develop an offender training program that will enable offender labor to be used to perform a variety of engineering functions. 
  • Communicate with engineering staff, plant management, plant supervisors/foreman on plant projects to implement production and offer creative ideas to cut costs, improve efficiency and quality control. 
  • Perform work in accordance with approved health and safety practices. 
  • Oversee floor production. 
  • Ensure tool/key control and offender security policies are followed in compliance with Facility Operational Policies and Procedures. 
  • Initiate, as needed, new or replacement equipment justification, specifications, suggested vendors, and related documents pertaining to the shop operations. 
  • Encourage active offender participation in the United States Department of Labor Apprentice Programs.

What You'll Need for Success:

This person must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical/Industrial Engineering, Industrial Management or Mechanical Engineering or related area. 
  • Six (6) years’ experience in safety, quality, lean manufacturing, machining, trades, and assembly. 
  • Extensive knowledge of federal/state regulations regarding design, construction, installation, maintenance and operation of buildings, machinery, and equipment used in industrial and/or processing plants. 
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering standards. 
  • Ability to read and evaluate plans, blueprints and drawings of industrial facilities related to equipment and layouts and troubleshoot the same.
