About the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board:
The Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board is the governing body of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, located in Plainfield, Indiana. The Board is comprised of 17 members, who have been appointed by the governor. The board sets the requirements and criteria for the basic training of law enforcement officers throughout the State of Indiana, which became mandatory in 1972.


The salary for this position traditionally starts at $34,398.00 per year but may be commensurate with education and/or experience.

About the Job:

As the Building Custodian within the Housekeeping Department of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA).  You will be responsible for performing cleaning and minor maintenance tasks to ensure that the academy buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner.  You will report to the Building Custodian Supervisor.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Clean by dusting, mopping, washing, vacuuming, polishing, disinfecting, or scrubbing all surfaces of furniture, furnishings, floors, walls, and any other surfaces
  • Restock supplies where necessary
  • Clean and maintain, wax, and polish floors
  • Strip and wax floors, as required
  • Clean carpets, as required
  • Request and store cleaning supplies and materials and provide routine maintenance on cleaning tools and equipment
  • Store cleaning equipment and supplies in a safe and orderly manner
  • Clear and clean waste containers and dispose of refuse and recyclables
  • Move furniture and equipment as requested by the housekeeping supervisor
  • Report any repairs needed to facilities maintenance
  • Provide support to and work with other team members
  • Other duties as assigned

What You'll Need for Success:

​You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment: 

  • Experience with and knowledge of standard cleaning procedures and equipment

  • Ability to comprehend product labels and instructions to ensure safe product handling

  • Must have excellent customer service skills

  • Must be able to perform a physically demanding shift requiring constant activity and the need to manage mid-weight equipment

  • Must have a working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and comprehend new computer programs

  • Must possess above-average observation skills and attention to detail

  • Must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure using diplomacy, courtesy, and tact
