About Correctional Industrial Facility:

As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Correctional Industrial Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry.  We strive to model best Correctional practices, return productive citizens to our communities, and inspire a culture of accountability, integrity and professionalism. The Correctional Industrial Facility is a level 2-3, medium security Correctional facility for adult males. The Correctional Industrial Facility is located in Pendleton, Indiana. The Correctional Industrial Facility has various job opportunities available to incarcerated individuals to aid in the re-entry process, including apprenticeships, maintenance, grounds crew, food service, sanitation, barbering, and manufacturing. Incarcerated individuals are also afforded the opportunity to earn their GED.

 

Role Overview:

As a Correctional Rec Leader you will be responsible for working as a part of a team in a maximum-security Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility for adult males. During a 7.5-hour shift, you will be responsible for the security of the recreation building, and the safety of the incarcerated individuals during the recreation lines. You will be responsible for implementing daily recreational programs during your shift with added responsibilities communicated to you by the Rec Coordinator.

 

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $39,000 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Plans, organizes, and leads recreational activities.
  • Designs recreational programs that include components of leisure awareness, self-awareness, decision-making, and social interaction. 
  • Works closely with the education, therapeutic, and volunteer teams to ensure that recreation programs run in accordance with agency policies and procedures. 
  • Resolves disputes for all recreational activities. 
  • Ensures that the safety and security of the facility is maintained during recreational activities.

What You'll Need for Success:

The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either 

  • a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) diploma and 
  • at least 1+ years of experience, applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
  • Extensive knowledge of recreational activities including sports, arts and crafts, dance, drama, music, and hobbies.
  • Basic knowledge of rules and laws that apply to specific sports and/or the ability to research those rules or laws.
  • Ability to maintain recreational equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Ability to engage residents in recreational activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
