About Pendleton Correctional Facility:
The Pendleton Correctional Facility (PCF), formerly known as the Indiana Reformatory, is a state prison located on 500 acres, 33 acres of which are located within the perimeter of the 30 foot wall. This is a maximum security facility that was built in 1922. PCF currently houses over 1,600 male offenders. This facility offers many opportunities to its offender population, including the opportunity to work, obtain their High School Equivalent, and be involved in facility-led programs.  One specific program, PLUS (Purposeful Living Units Serve), is a faith- and character-based program aimed at helping offenders avoid criminal behavior by teaching them to demonstrate the following core values: honesty, integrity, respect, responsibility, compassion and tolerance. Pendleton also has 4 different programs for our offenders that deal with animals, including ICAN (Indiana Canine Assistance Network), a facility apprenticeship program which allows inmates to train dogs to become service animals to assist the disabled.

 

Salary Information:

This role starts at a base salary of $34,398.

About the Job:

As a Plant Foreman, you will be responsible for supervising offender workers within the Indiana Department of Correction's ICI Industries operations. Operations include, but are not limited to, traditional industries, joint venture partnerships, service operations, commissary, and warehousing. In this role, you will be supervised by the Plant Manager.  

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Supervise offender workers in the production work of assigned shop. 
  • Provide on-the-job training to offenders in the manufacturing, processing, and/or shipping of products. 
  • Ensure that the offenders register and fulfill the training according to work processes as defined by United States Department of Labor (USDOL) Apprenticeship Program. 
  • Perform or supervise the set up and maintenance of equipment. 
  • Provide all applicable safety training to offender workers for assigned areas of supervision. 
  • Monitor quality control of finished goods and work being performed.

What We're Looking For:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE). 
  • Four (4) years of full-time experience in the production of goods or services, or related experience.  
    • Substitution: Each two (2) years of high school may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.  
  • Completion of an accredited vocational training program related to the area of assignment may substitute for the required experience with a maximum substitution of one (1) year. 

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Thorough knowledge of one or more of the areas of manufacturing, including knowledge of equipment maintenance and set-up.  
  • Ability to follow production schedules and monitor quality of work. 
  • Ability to resolve operational problems. 
  • Ability to supervise offenders performing work that requires exactness and accuracy, while ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with custody policy and procedure. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
This role provides supervision for offenders and requires a high level of judgment and care.
