About Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility:

As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility (PNJCF) promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry.  We strive to model best Correctional practices, return productive citizens to our communities, and inspire a culture of accountability, integrity and professionalism. The Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility is a maximum security Correctional facility for juvenile males. Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility is located in Pendleton, Indiana. The Pendleton Juvenile Correctional facility is a campus-like structure, consisting of housing units, medical, food, and laundry services. The Programs building accommodates Providence Jr. /Sr. High School, indoor recreational facilities, and a chapel.  There are outdoor recreational areas within the fenced perimeter, including baseball diamonds, volleyball courts, basketball courts, and a quarter-mile walking running track.  Additionally, the facility includes a housing area for special management and behaviorally challenged youths. 

 

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $34,216.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Support classroom preparation, lesson plan preparation, instruction and record keeping. 
  • Assist with behavior management of the classroom. 
  • Take attendance, order and maintain supplies, and prepare and maintain classroom records. 
  • Administer tests and grade papers and tests. 
  • Tutor small groups of students in various subject matter.  
  • Assist teacher in daily instruction of students providing individual tutoring as necessary. 
  • May assist with on-the-job training of new teacher assistants. 
  • May participate and assist with field trips and experiential learning programs 
  • Operate audio-visual and special educational equipment.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:  

  • Two (2) years of full-time experience in an Educational Institution or related area. 
  • Must test negative on all drug screenings if this position is based in a Correctional Facility. 
  • Upon hire, the ability to successfully complete all required training and certifications such as CPR and First Aid training. 
  • Working knowledge of institutional, as well as departmental goals, policies, programs, and regulations. 
  • Working knowledge of specialized instructional area and of tutoring techniques. 
  • Working knowledge of developmental and/or physical disabilities as they relate to specialized instructional needs. 
  • Ability to stimulate students’ interest and to relate well to those at different stages of development and with different physical, mental, and/or social disabilities. 
  • Ability to operate audio-visual and special educational equipment. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with students to promote effective instruction. 
  • Ability to promote positive social values and personal accountability.
