About the Correctional Industrial Facility:
The Correctional Industrial Facility (CIF) is a medium security facility located on 89 acres in Pendleton, IN, and established in 1985. Currently, CIF houses over 1,400 male offenders, and the facility offers many opportunities to its offender population. This includes the opportunity to work, obtain their High School Equivalent, and be involved in facility-led programs.  One specific program, PLUS (Purposeful Living Units Serve), is a faith- and character-based program aimed at helping offenders avoid criminal behavior by teaching them to demonstrate the following core values: honesty, integrity, respect, responsibility, compassion and tolerance. CIF also has 4 different programs for our offenders that deal with animals, including ICAN (Indiana Canine Assistance Network), a facility apprenticeship program which allows inmates to train dogs to become service animals to assist the disabled.


Salary Information:

This role hires at a base salary of $34,398.

The Electronics Technician provides the technical electronics expertise necessary for the installation, operation and inspection of electronic equipment.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Troubleshoots a variety of complex electronic equipment and performs necessary electrical repairs.
  • Researches new electronic equipment.
  • Resolves electrical and operable problems when combining new equipment with present equipment.
  • Ensures all electronic systems meet regulatory laws and complies to ACA standards and departmental policies/procedures and directives.
  • Ensures all safety standards and precautions are followed.
  • Estimate needs for projects.
  • Installs electronic and telecommunication equipment as required.
  • Inspects grounds, buildings, and equipment to assure proper operations.
  • Maintains record of repairs, calibration and tests.
  • Maintains inventory of electronic equipment and parts.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Thorough knowledge of, and ability to inspect and analyze, electronic equipment.  
  • Extensive knowledge of standard theories, methods, procedures, materials, test equipment and tools of the electronics field.
  • Working knowledge of, and ability to utilize, repair manuals, schematics and parts catalogs.
  • Working knowledge of hazards peculiar to high voltage electronics equipment and applicable safety procedures.
  • Working knowledge of various power regulations throughout the state.
  • Practical knowledge of, and ability to direct, the installation of electronic equipment.
  • Ability to analyze, diagnose and correct malfunctions of a wide variety of electronic equipment.
  • Ability to establish professional and technical contacts with manufacturers, suppliers and vendors of electronic equipment.
  • Ability to schedule and direct the work activities of subordinate employees.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain and update files on equipment and counts.
