Correctional Casework Manager:

The Correctional Casework Manager works in an Indiana Department of Correction (DOC) facility and is responsible for the appropriate assignment and movement of adult offenders.

A day in the life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Supervises lower level staff in the classification division.
  • Processes annual classification reviews and ensures corrections are finalized in Offender Information System (OIS).
  • Processes offender transfer requests ensuring that offender meets required criteria.
  • Processes offender job classifications based on recommendations from supervisors and unit team staff.
  • Processes A&O classification for new offenders and ensure A&O is completed in a timely manner.
  • Functions as a resource person to offenders within the housing units.
  • Disseminates, explains, interprets and enforces facility policies and procedures to offenders.

What we are looking for:
  • May substitute for Casework Manager, Classification Supervisor, Unit Team Manager or counselors.
  • Broad knowledge of correctional programs and classification and security procedures in the facility.
  • Thorough knowledge of DOC policies, procedures and all applicable State and Federal laws.
  • Thorough knowledge of the American Correctional Associations (ACA) standards relative to corrections and unit team management.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, interpret and correlate technical correctional material.
  • Ability to develop and implement new policies and procedures.
  • Ability to document and maintain records according to ACA standards.
  • Working knowledge of source materials and references impacting facility programs.
  • Ability to test negative on all drug tests.
  • Ability to assess individual performance of staff and provide development and training.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Must attend, participate and complete up to 40 hours of annual training programs.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role provides supervision for offenders and requires a high level of judgment and care.
This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.

If this is an Intermittent position, the position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
