About the Correctional Industrial Facility:
The Correctional Industrial Facility (CIF) is a medium security facility located on 89 acres in Pendleton, IN, and established in 1985. Currently, CIF houses over 1,400 male offenders, and the facility offers many opportunities to its offender population. This includes the opportunity to work, obtain their High School Equivalent, and be involved in facility-led programs.  One specific program, PLUS (Purposeful Living Units Serve), is a faith- and character-based program aimed at helping offenders avoid criminal behavior by teaching them to demonstrate the following core values: honesty, integrity, respect, responsibility, compassion and tolerance. CIF also has 4 different programs for our offenders that deal with animals, including ICAN (Indiana Canine Assistance Network), a facility apprenticeship program which allows inmates to train dogs to become service animals to assist the disabled.

 

Salary Information:
The salary for this position is $37,518.00

About the Job:

As the Correctional Casework Manager, you will be responsible for the supervision of the correctional casework staff, including completion of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) assessments. You will also have an assigned caseload of offenders, acting as the initial point of contact for day-to-day offender case management issues which includes identifying and addressing needs such as providing referrals to employment, rehabilitative services, mental health programs, and preparation for re-entry. You may provide direct supervision and assist with the operations of the housing units

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Provide immediate supervision to your Correctional Caseworker team for adherence to policy and procedure through the use of routine CQI assessments.  
  • Supervise, train, coach, and review the performance of correctional caseworkers assigned to the unit team, assess individual strengths and weaknesses, utilize regular evaluations and frequent informal reviews of staff performance in accordance with the standards, guidelines and policies of the Department and State Personnel Department. 
  • Assesses each assigned offender's risks and needs utilizing the Individual Indiana Risk Assessment System (IRAS). 
  • Coordinates with all appropriate facility staff to address re-entry and release issues. 
  • Provides group and individual programming for re-entry and release as required. 
  • Coordinates with the classification department staff to make appropriate classification recommendations for offenders. 
  • Conducts unit orientation for newly received offenders.  
  • Maintains high security standards in the unit and facility.

What You'll Need for Success:

This role must have the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • ​Possession of a High School Diploma or High School  Equivalent (HSE). 
  • At least two (2) years of work experience in social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field. Substitutions: Each one (1) year of related education may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. 
  • Within 90 days of hire, you must obtain the Indiana Risk Assessment System Certification through the Indiana Office of Court Services. 
  • Must test negative on all drug screenings.  
  • Upon hire, the ability to successfully complete all mandatory training including the DOC Supervisory Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses. 
  • Ability to write  records of offenders. 
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage the work of the staff. 
  • Ability to establish a working relationship with staff and offenders. 
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize conflict resolution techniques. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role provides supervision for offenders and requires a high level of judgment and care.
This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.

If this is an Intermittent position, the position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
