About the Job:

As a Curriculum Development Specialist, you will work under the supervision of the Staff Development and Training Curriculum Development Manager in program design, establishment, and administration of the training programs for the Department. In addition, you will coordinate and supervise various training programs, operating within the confines of established guidelines, Departmental policies/procedures, State and Federal law, and ACA standards.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate the training programs to achieve agency goals and objectives. 
  • Assist with the development of e-learning training. 
  • Coordinate, supervise, and instruct the new employee, annual, and on-the-job training for all staff. 
  • Test, measure, and evaluate trainee performance based on established standards. 
  • Prepare and distribute Training Needs Assessment for the facility/division. 
  • Ensure that all training programs, procedures, methods, and standards are in compliance with established standards. 
  • Collaborate with all departments within the facility to enhance the learning environment and performance of employees. 
  • Maintain a variety of training records, course information, and prepare written reports. 
  • Collaborate with other Trainers on joint training programs. 
  • Recruit, evaluate, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing corrective actions and opportunities to continue professional development.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • ​High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE). 
  • Four (4) years of full-time professional experience in corrections, education, in-service training, or related experience. 
  • Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of Staff Development and Training Division including Administrative Procedures. 
  • Advanced knowledge of adult training and educational theories, methods, principles, practices, techniques, and assessment tools. 
  • Working knowledge of available resources to include the American Correctional Association (ACA), National Institute of Corrections, Bureau of Justice Statistics – Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention, etc.  
  • Advanced knowledge of training correctional issues, treatment programs, custody issues, ACA standards, and departmental policy and procedure. 
  • Ability to conduct research and remain abreast of new developments in correctional training.  
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Ability to present and execute detailed lesson plans. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.
