Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $39,000.00 per year but may be commensurate with education and/or experience.

About the Job:

As the Auto Mechanic Foreman, you will be responsible for supervising and directing offenders in automotive maintenance and the repair of state-owned vehicles.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Supervise and instruct offenders in automotive repair and proper use of automotive mechanical tools. 
  • Diagnose automotive malfunctions. 
  • Complete engine, transmission, or front suspension overhaul. 
  • Replace or repair major engine, transmission, differential, suspension,  or electrical components. 
  • Order and pick up parts and automotive mechanical equipment needed to repair vehicles. 
  • Assist in preparing automobile division budget. 
  • Add and drain oil from crankcase and refills with new oil.; 
  • Install automobile accessories such as oil and air filters, windshield wiper blades, fan belts and batteries.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE). 
  • Four (4) years of full-time experience as an automotive mechanic. Substitution: Completion of a recognized apprenticeship may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience. Completion of a recognized training program in automotive mechanics may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. 
  • Extensive knowledge of automobile functions, systems and repair;repair. 
  • Extensive knowledge of auto repair procedures and repair materials and tools used in auto repair;repair. 
  • Ability to use sophisticated electronic diagnostic equipment, repair manuals and parts catalogs. 
  • Ability to instruct others in use of diagnostic equipment and suspension alignment equipment. 
  • Ability to maintain reports and inventory levels. 
  • Ability to instruct, plan, and assign the work of offenders. 
  • Practical knowledge of appropriate safety precautions;precautions. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role provides supervision for offenders and requires a high level of judgment and care.
