About Madison State Hospital:

Madison State Hospital has served the citizens of Indiana for over a century. About the Job:

You will be responsible for responsible for provision of medical-psychiatric care of patients within a state operated facility.  Your role participates in the development and implementation of medical/clinical policies and guidelines to assure continuous performance improvement in safety, patient care, and outcomes.

A Day in the Life:
  • Ensures patients are provided with the quality of care consistent with contemporary professional standards in their professional discipline;
  • Must abide by the Medical Staff By-Laws, Rules and Regulations, and all facility policies and procedures;   
  • Must carry out responsibilities in a professional and cooperative manner;
  • Ensures documentation of patient information is completed in the medical record, in a timely manner;
  • Must abide by the lawful and ethical principles of each discipline as provided by law and professional associations.;
  • Must work cooperatively and collaboratively with all medical and non-medical staff, administration, and community agencies in order to have a positive and therapeutic impact on patient care;
  • Responsible to ensure appropriate arrangements for coverage in caring for patients during absence of a staff psychiatrist; 
  • Participate in  continuing education programs;
  • Notify the Medical Staff Organization and the Hospital administration of any adverse actions taken against the individual by any healthcare facility, state licensure board, drug enforcement administration, or court of law in a malpractice action;
  • Ensure each patient’s medical condition will be assessed, managed and treatment is coordinated by a licensed physician;
  • Ensure medical staff play an active role in the education of patients, families, and staff;
  • To coordinate care, treatment, and services with other practitioners and hospital personnel, as relevant to care, treatment and services of an individual patient;
  • To ensure accurate, timely, and legible completion of patient's medical record;
  • Provide supervision to staff in the medical and clinical departments;
  • Administer discipline as needed;
  • Prepare performance appraisals on assigned employees;
  • Is a member of numerous committees;
  • Contributes to patient treatment programs and treatment plans as requested.
  • Sign and perform the duties of a collaborative agreement of advance practice RNs for prescriptive authority.
What We're Looking For:
  • Possess a degree in medicine and be a licensed Psychiatrist;
  • Complete an approved post-graduate training program that is one fully accredited throughout thetime of the practitioner's training by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, by the American Osteopathic Association, or by successor agency to any of the foregoing or by an equivalent professionally recognized accrediting body
  • Hold a current valid license to practice medicine/psychiatry in the State of Indiana
  • Hold a current valid Indiana Controlled Substance Registration Certificate
  • Hold a current valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number
