About Logansport State Hospital:

Logansport State Hospital is a state-operated inpatient psychiatric hospital for adults with mental illness.  Using an interdisciplinary approach and evidence-based programming, we promote recovery and return of the individual to the community. 

 

Salary Information: 

This position has a beginning pay rate of $15.02 per hour, with prior experience as a Special Attendant.  The Trainee pay rate is $14.48 and upon successful completion of six months of work will increase to $15.02.  This position is for the evening shift.

About the Job:

The purpose of this position is to provide care and support to patients by encouraging involvement in inter-active groups, social activities and other therapeutic measures.

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary professionals to determine and provide the best care practices to patients
  • Maintains a safe and security environment through de-escalation techniques with patients.

A Day in the Life:

  • Maintains safety and security on patient units.
  • Monitors patients in order to detect unusual behavior and report observations to RN or professional staff.  Monitors patients during meals and may feed patients needing assistance.
  • Participates with patients in routine physical, emotional, psychological and rehabilitative care under the direction of a supervisor or treatment team
  • Records and maintains records of patient condition and activity.  
  • Orients new patients and staff to the hospital routine on assigned unit.
  • May perform nursing duties such as administering medications (QMAs), measuring vital signs and collecting specimens.
  • Utilizes therapeutic interventions of patients using the principles of de-escalation, re-direction and intervention techniques for prevention and management of behavior.
  • Accompanies patients to appointments, trips, religious and recreational events.
  • Cleans and disinfect rooms, furnishings and equipment to maintain a safe and clean environment

What We Are Looking For:

  • A candidate with six months experience as a Special Attendant Trainee or state Behavioral   Health Recovery Attendant. 
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of full-time work experience preferred;
  • Must undergo and pass an annual physical ability test if required by Appointing Authority

What You Will Need for Success:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) months of full-time paid experience as a state Special Attendant Trainee (5MAT) or a state Behavioral Health Recovery Attendant or Psychiatric Attendant (3CA4).
    • Incumbent without required experience would be hired as Special Attendant Trainee (5MAT), with the following preferred experience:  Two (2) years of full-time paid work experience.  Each two (2) years of high school may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.   The hourly rate for the Trainee is $14.48 and upon successful completion of six months of work will increase to $15.02.
