Unpaid Internship:
The Indiana Department of Transportation's (INDOT) summer internship program is an unpaid summer internship that lasts approximately 3.5 months.
About the Job:
This position will be responsible for helping as an entry-level project manager responsible for managing scope, budget and schedule for small projects, or distinctive tasks within larger projects that are often routine in nature. This person will serve as a part of a cross-functional team focused on delivering projects on-time and on-budget, from letting to completion learning a wide variety of perspectives with regard to Project Management.
A Day in the Life:
- Will work under the supervision and mentorship of another lead project manager or subject matter expert
- Ability to review and comprehend all departmental, functional requirements to ensure expectations are clear. Departments include but are not limited to Right-of-Way, Environmental, Design, Planning/Technical Services, Construction, Utility, Railroad, Permits, etc.
- Facilitate cross-functional engagement with design, planning/technical services and construction
- Ensures compliance with federal & state regulations
- Provides related technical assistance in development and maintenance of tracking logs using data base management system
- Performs other job related duties as assigned
What You'll Need for Success:
- Working towards a Bachelor Degree in civil engineering, project management, other engineering, engineering technology, construction management, public administration, business management or related field
- Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT
- Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports
- Analytical skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects
- Ability to operate computer tools
- Ability to handle routine and sensitive contacts with governmental officials, consulting firms, contractors, and the general public;
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts
- Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances
