Role Overview:
This postition supports the daily operations of the Laporte Traffic departments multiple different divisions. This includes the signs, panels, markings and signal crews. Assisting with traffic control, equipment setup and job site preparation. Must be comfortable working with live traffic. Good communication skills and the ability to follow safey instructions are extremly important. There will be times when you will be loading/unloading materials. Doing other duties as required.
Location:
This position is located in INDOT’s LaPorte District, Traffic Department.
Salary:
This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $18.00 an hour.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Operates basic highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain, repair and clean highways and rights-of-way.
- Moves and loads supplies and materials.
- Maintains, repairs, and installs traffic signs, route markers, and pavement markings.
- Performs emergency response activities such as: clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, placement of signs, and erecting barricades.
- Performs equipment maintenance such as: minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre-trip inspections.
- Performs miscellaneous labor tasks.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- Valid high school diploma or GED preferred; or one (1) year of work experience.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods of time.
- Candidate will be required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
