Role Overview:
In this role you will be responsible for participating in preventative maintenance and/or maintenance repair work at the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). You will follow general instructions and standard practices that have been setup and documented. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Salary:
This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $18.00 an hour.
Location:
This position is located in INDOT’s LaPorte Area.
A Day in the Life:
The essential elements of the job duties:
- Oversees the work of outside contractors, making sure assigned work is completed appropriately and as scheduled, as well as in a safe and efficient manner
- Identifies, makes recommendations to the proper parties, and takes appropriate action to ensure timely correction of maintenance issues/problems at all district facilities
- Oversees operation and maintenance of the facility and/or buildings to minimize the interruption of service to various operations
- Assists in ensuring that the facility and grounds are in a constant state of survey readiness from a maintenance perspective
- Initiates repair parts order requests, recommends items for inventory stock, and monitors use
- Provides service and repairs to various facilities motors, panels, transformers, lighting systems, brine systems
- deer burners, lift stations, propane dispensers
- Performs support work with/for other crafts/trades
- Installs commercial doors and hardware

What You'll Need for Success:
This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- Valid high school diploma or GED, preferred
- One (1) year of work experience, maintenance preferred
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time
- Candidate will be required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
