This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $47,4760.  Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

About the Job:

The Public Health Nurse Surveyor  <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">serves as a nurse surveyor for hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, abortion clinics, birthing centers, and other assigned health care entities licensed and/or certified by ISDH to determine compliance with state and/or federal rules and/or regulations. Incumbent reviews, triages, i, closes complaint investigation.  Incumbent assists field surveyor in assuring complaints are investigated timely in accordance with division/CMS policy. This is a field position located in Central Indiana. Qualified individuals from Marion county and surrounding counties are encouraged to apply. 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Conducts annual surveys of assigned entities to determine compliance with state and/or federal rules and/or regulations.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Conducts surveys following protocols as defined by SOM, policies and procedures of the Agency and Division.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Demonstrates professionalism at all times during the survey process.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Assists in training of division staff and new surveyors
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Investigates complaints following federal and/or state protocol, policies and procedures.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Serves as team leaders for surveys when assigned which includes assigning survey tasks, conducting entrance and exit conferences and merging and submitting reports timely.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Conducts assigned areas of survey when acting under another team leader and submitting reports in accordance with Principles of Documentation and QA policy.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Reviews complaints on assigned facilities, establishes priority, assigns to surveyor for investigation, reviews investigation after POC is approved and closes complaint.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Assists field surveyor in assuring complaints are investigated timely in accordance <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">with division/CMS policy.

  • Is required to have specialized knowledge of nursing principles and techniques as applied to population being served by entities being surveyed.
  • Is required to have specialized knowledge of operation and administration of type of facility being surveyed.
  • Must have a working knowledge of survey and investigative procedures and the ability to conduct surveys, inspections, interviews, and investigations and to prepare reports documenting findings.
  • Must have practical knowledge of appropriate state and federal laws, rules and regulations for licensing/certification of type of entity being surveyed.
  • Must have practical knowledge of and the ability to review and analyze entity records and documents for compliance with rules/regulations.
  • Must have ability to observe and recognize potential adverse health and safety conditions or rule/regulation violations.
  • Must have ability to communicate verbally and in writing with individuals and in group situations.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers, especially word processing and electronic mail.
  • Must have ability to manage time and complete tasks without constant supervision.
  • Must have ability to be flexible and maintain composure under stressful situations.
  • Must have understanding of and ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Must have working knowledge of the CMS/division complaint process and the ACTS/QUAMS data systems.
