White River State Park, located in downtown Indianapolis, welcomes nearly 3 million visitors a year to its world-class attractions. Greenspaces, trails, trees, and waterways co-mingle alongside cultural, educational, and recreational attractions across 250 beautiful acres. Attractions at White River State Park include Everwise Amphitheater at White River State Park, IMAX Theater, Indianapolis Zoo, Indiana State Museum, Eiteljorg Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions, Central Canal, and Indians Baseball at Victory Field. Role Overview:
This position is responsible for the professional and efficient operation of the Visitor Center. The Park Ambassador is the first impression of White River State Park and is responsible for creating an atmosphere where the visitors feel welcome. The incumbent will answer inquiries about the park as well as the City of Indianapolis. The incumbent must be responsible, dependable, and timely.
Visitor Center Hours of Operation:
January - February
- Closed
March - December
- Sunday: 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
- Monday - Saturday: 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
During the summer concert season at the Everwise Amphitheater, the Visitor Center stays open until the concert gates open, usually around 7:00 pm.
Salary Statement:
The hourly wage for this part-time position starts at $14.17/hour.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Supports the daily operations of an organization by performing general office tasks
- Greets visitors and directs them to the appropriate person according to their needs.
- Answers telephones and gives information to callers, take messages, or transfers calls to appropriate individuals.
- Opens, sorts, and routes incoming mail and correspondence and prepares outgoing mail.
- Operates office machines, such as photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems, and personal computers.
- Accurately maintained and organized office files.
- Deliver messages and run errands.
- Maintains inventory, orders, and distributes supplies.
- Completes tasks or projects assigned by supervisor in a timely manner.
- Generate revenue through sales of gift shop merchandise

What You'll Need for Success:
The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have a
• High School Diploma or equivalent
Upon entering the role, individuals must have or obtain the following requirements:
- Must be available on some weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evening shifts
- Must present a professional appearance
- Extensive knowledge of White River State Park and the City of Indianapolis.
- Professional experience in the customer service field.
- Working knowledge of general office functions and clerical procedures.
- Basic computer skills
- Active listening skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Attention to detail and proofreading skills
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work with sensitive documents and information, and be privy to sensitive agency information without divulging information to internal or external parties
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to provide effective and professional customer service to internal and external parties.
- Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
