This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $41,574.  Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

About the Job:

The Viral Hepatitis Epidemiology Manager will manage the viral hepatitis epidemiology and surveillance activities and contribute to the vision and mission of ISDH and the Division of HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis by promoting, protecting and providing for the health of Hoosier.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Manage and supervise the viral hepatitis informatics epidemiologist and student hepatitis investigators.
  • Coordinates viral hepatitis surveillance, investigation, prevention and control activities and ensures that case information is accurate, complete and reported in a timely manner.
  • Initiate, monitor, and make decisions on viral hepatitis surveillance and epidemiology functions including electronic lab reporting, NBS improvements and approve out-going data requests.
  • Provide the Viral Hepatitis Program Director with annual disease reports.
  • Represent Indiana Viral Hepatitis Program as an active member of the CSTE hepatitis sub-committee and Hepatitis C ECHO.
  • Provide epidemiology and surveillance training for new employees in the viral hepatitis program. 
  • Manage the development, preparation, review and distribution of procedures and protocols for viral hepatitis case investigations.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for Hepatitis B and C by monitoring surveillance trends and performing epidemiologic analyses.
  • Provide guidance and education to ISDH program areas, field staff, local health departments, health care providers, schools, child care settings, and others during case investigations and outbreaks. 
  • Analyze data and prepare and distribute reports and feedback to healthcare providers, local health departments and other partners.
  • Conduct analyses and prepare abstracts, manuscripts, and reports for dissemination, including presentations and posters at state and national conferences.
  • Communicate with health care professionals, state and local officials, public health officials, the media and lay individuals verbally and in writing individually or in group setting.

What We're Looking For:
  • Master's of Public Health with two (2) years of work experience in applied public health epidemiology.
Requirements:

 

  • Proficiency using SAS/SQL analytic software.
  • Broad knowledge of epidemiology and communicable disease surveillance.
  • Broad knowledge of electronic disease reporting and syndromic surveillance.
  • Extensive knowledge of epidemiological methods, study design and study analyses;
  • Extensive knowledge of advance level statistical procedures;
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and representatives of state, local and federal agencies and to coordinate efforts of administrative and professional personnel;
  • Ability to prepare research documents and reports.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
