Role Overview

Unemployment Insurance Auditor 4 staff within the Employer Account Maintenance (EAM) unit has direct responsibility for updating employer records to show the correct legal information, posting incoming quarterly payroll reports, resolving suspended transactions for payment, processing adjustments to prior quarterly wage and employment report filings, evaluating requests for abatement of interest, penalty, and delinquent rate modification upon request, troubleshooting Employer Self Service (ESS) issues, and responding promptly to employer inquiries by telephone or e-mail. 

 

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Answering questions from regulated entities regarding their state unemployment tax accounts.
  • Performing state unemployment tax account setup and standard tax account maintenance activities.
  • Performing research, data analysis, and investigation regarding an employer or assigned account.
  • Recognizing when a regulated entity issue requires escalation and escalating to the appropriate UI Program Division.
  • Communicating tax administration procedures and policies related to state and federal tax laws to an employer or its representatives;
  • Determining applicability of state and federal unemployment insurance tax laws, regulations, rules, policies, and legal precedents on assigned work. 
  • Processing all assigned work by quality and timeliness requirements set by the UI Director or USDOL.
  • Documenting and providing an audit trail for all determinations and investigative work.
  • Issuing requests for information related to assigned work;
  • Acting as a witness in any legal challenge to investigation or dete1mination.
  • Issuing written findings regarding assigned work when required.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

  • Strong demonstration of adherence to organizational mission and protocols.
  • Knowledge and the ability to apply state and federal laws, the Indiana Administrative Code, the Code of Federal Regulations, IRS publications, USDOL UI Policy Letters, state policies and procedures, and legal precedent to execute job duties.
  • Knowledge of all UI program areas; understanding of the roles of other employees in the agency and how their roles affect the administration of the UI program.
  • Ability to recognize problems, issues, severe non-compliance, and potential fraud, among other assigned work.
  • Ability to recognize when program actions concern other agency functions and to communicate with those departments as needed;
  • Ability to plan, initiate, and adequately execute program goals and initiatives;
  • Ability to juggle multiple competing priorities to meet federal quality and timeliness performance standards.
  • Excellent communication, planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to adapt to updated Information Technology system requirements and new programs affecting UI tax and compliance functions;
  • Adherence to standards of professionalism during interactions with many internal and external parties when executing job duties.
  • Ability to relate and interact with governmental employees at all levels, employers, and private citizens in a manner conducive to the professional representation of the program.
  • Ability to anticipate and evaluate problems that would create barriers to achieving goals and to initiate c01Tective actions.
  • Ability to think and react calmly in adverse or conflict-driven situations.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
