Salary Information:
This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $37,778.  Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

About the Job:

This position reports to the Planning & Response Director and provides exercise development and evaluation expertise and the coordination of trainings requiring involvement from the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) Division of Emergency Preparedness (DEP). 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Coordinate with planning and response staff to assure staff are exercised to the response plans and all plans are exercised, evaluated and updated cyclically to assure optimal functionality
  • Coordinate with planning and response staff to assure staff are trained to the response plans
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance locally to ten public health districts
  • Develop, implement, provide guidance and evaluate exercises relative to all-hazards planning and response
  • Develop and conduct exercises that involve DEP staff, district staff, local health departments and other public health preparedness partners as required 
  • Assist in agency development of specific training and educational modules relative to health and medical planning and response    
  • Annually assess and assure the completion of exercise related federal grant requirements
  • Complete a Training & Exercise Plan annually and maintain IDOH Developmental Training

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written
  • Thorough knowledge of all source materials and references, including federal and state laws governing disaster response 
  • Knowledge of the ISDH and local public health infrastructure
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation of local health departments, hospitals, and various state agencies in emergency events
  • Specialized knowledge of HSEEP principles, exercise development, conducting, and evaluation 
  • Advanced skills in exercise evaluation and conducting After Action Conferences and writing IPs and Corrective Action Plans
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and representatives of local, state and federal agencies
  • Considerable ability to articulate public health preparedness and emergency response roles and plans

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
