Role Overview:

 

The Indiana Office of Technology (IOT) is seeking a seasoned information technology professional to lead one of its key operations teams. The Systems Administration Manager position is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of employees in Virtualization, Storage, and Citrix, ensuring efficient management of resources and implementing strategies defined by the Deputy/Assistant IT Director and other senior leadership. The position plays a crucial role in maintaining the state's infrastructure, contributing to the overall success of IOT by maintaining high availability and performance of the VMWare, Storage, and Citrix environments. The manager will be responsible for collaboration between IT security and operations and will integrate tools, processes, and technology to keep an enterprise secure while reducing risk. The manager will optimize resources, reducing the data center's hardware footprint, ensuring data security and integrity, and facilitating cross-team collaboration to drive innovation and problem resolution. Bridging the gap between the Deputy/Assistant IT Director and team members, this manager and its peer position (currently filled) will enable agile decision-making, enhance communication, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the teams. This will ultimately result in increased operational efficiency, reduced system downtime, and improved service delivery to internal and external stakeholders.

 

Salary:

 

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $79,118 but may be commensurate with education and job experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Define the operating system software and hardware requirements.
  • Direct information technology software systems and technical staff, resources, projects, and plans.
  • Plan and direct the acquisition of information technology products, services, and resources to meet the agency's mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Develop and promulgate information technology policy and procedures.
  • Assign personnel to projects and direct activities.
  • Prepare performance reports and evaluate work.
  • Confer with and advise subordinates on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods.
  • Consult with personnel and management in other information systems sections to coordinate activities.
  • Consult with management and staff throughout the agency to ascertain technology needs.
  • Responsible for meeting budget goals and objectives.
  • Provide input to policy-level direction regarding standards and budget constraints.
  • Assign personnel to projects and direct their activities.
  • Project software and hardware requirements in conjunction with other information technology managers.
  • Develop standards for all software system applications and provide technical guidance to the information technology staff.
  • Direct the interface of software systems with the hardware configuration and application systems.
  • Responsible for configuration/capacity planning, systems performance analysis, and optimization.
  • Direct software product evaluations.
  • Prepare activity and progress reports for software systems activities.
  • Effectively use resources to develop solutions.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

  • Broad knowledge of information technology equipment, operation, and capabilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of the State’s information technology policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of current and emerging information technologies.
  • Broad knowledge of system software, system architecture, management principles, and new system software techniques.
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
