About the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites:

The Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (ISMHS) is a statewide museum system with 12 locations, including a central museum based in Indianapolis. Our mission is to serve as a catalyst for informal lifelong learning that connects the stories of real people, places, and things. Through the museum and its 11 historic sites, visitors are able to engage with the past and connect it to the present, carrying their newfound knowledge and experiences with them long after their visits end.

 

Salary:

This position typically hires at a rate of $15.00/hour.

About The Job:

As a Summer Camp Counselor, you will serve within the Programs and Education Engagement department at the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites working as assigned within the Museum Summer Camp program. This temporary, full-time position will work up to 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 05/25/2022 to 07/29/2022. You will report to the Youth Program Manager. 

 

A Day In The Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Assist with the leading camp activities and encouraging youth in hands-on activities. Adapt program activities as needed to better met camper needs.  
  • Assist with preparation of materials and coordinating supplies for camp activities.
  • Directly supervise children in camp; report disciplinary issues to the camp director immediately.
  • Mentor and encourage creativity & exploration and hands-on, minds-on learning with campers.
  • Model leadership, a positive attitude, and a desire to learn and explore with campers.
  • Assist with setup/cleanup of activities including before/after camp games and activities.
  • Assist with evaluation of activities and share feedback with youth program manager.
  • Provide a safe environment for play, learning and discovery with campers.

What You Need For Success:

  • High School diploma or equivalent 
  • Experience working with children 
  • Ability to communicate information to multiple audiences, including children in a wide variety of formats
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday from 05/25/2022 to 07/29/2022
  • Excellent public speaking skills with enthusiasm and creativity while interacting with visitors of all ages and abilities
  • Must be a team player
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and attitude

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
