Role Overview: 

This position is designed to serve as a centralized, statewide support for District-level Highway Maintenance and Operational Support functions. This purpose is accomplished through design, execution, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of performance standards, policies, reporting procedures, and business processes. Directives are issued from this position that impact Highway Maintenance and Operational Support activities across the entire state. This position provides technical support, operational support, and guidance for the implementation of all Agency initiatives related to Highway Maintenance and Operational Support.  This position reports directly to the Statewide Operations Director and has peers that include Statewide Fleet Director, Statewide Facilities Director, and Statewide Emergency Response Director.

 

Salary

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $93,002.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience. 

 

Location

This position is located in INDOT’s Central Office, Indianapolis.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

•  Perform strategic planning, establish goals, and evaluate effectiveness of multiple business units within the Division. Continue to evaluate performance, make adjustments, and improve services provided.
    o  Statewide Right-of-Way Support
    o  Statewide Maintenance Engineering Support
    o  Statewide Work Management Software Support
    o  Statewide Logistical Support
•  Serve as primary point of contact and oversee Maintenance and Material-related Joint Transportation Research Projects
•  Serve as primary point of contact for statewide Customer Service cases
•  Supervise and develop employees, ensuring they are highly skilled in both field-specific and administrative responsibilities
•  Responsible for oversight, forecasting, budget projections, planning, and approving purchases in three budgets, containing mulimillion dollar acounts
    o  Maintenance Management District Support Account
    o  Logistical Support Account (Material\Services)
    o  Operations Process & Systems Management Account
    o  Maintenance Operations SPR Fund Planning and Accounting
•  Communicate with customers and news media on an as-needed basis for subjects related to my business areas.
•  Coordinate with other state agencies, local officials, and private entities on planning and operational issues

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or 5 plus years professional related experience
  • Ability to manage multi-tiered projects
  • Proficiency in budget management
  • Technical proficiency must be able to use computers and mobile devices
  • Technical proficiency must be able to use Microsoft Office applications with a strong knowledge of Excel
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management and to gain support for new ideas and objectives
  • Ability to formulate sound management and fiscal recommendations and make appropriate decisions with consideration of potential impact on department and districts
  • Ability to develop, monitor, and evaluate the Statewide Maintenance Work Plan
  • Ability to plan and facilitate meetings, workshops, and training 
  • Current valid driver’s license

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
