About the State Information Center (SIC):

The State Information Center (SIC) exists to provide a single point of entry into state government. SIC agents direct customers to the area or agency that provides the needed information, putting down the guesswork and providing the public with easier access to state government agencies. SIC does not represent one specific agency, but approximately 100 agencies servicing the entire state of Indiana. Our goal is to provide each citizen with a professional and thorough resolution to their needs.


The State Information Center will help direct customers to the correct agency either by providing contact information, directions to the information on the agency website, or by providing general information regarding the subject.



The starting salary for this position may be commensurate with education and/or experience.

About the Job:

The State Information Center Representative serves as an Information Counselor for all state agencies indirectly by working to create better communication lines between the general public and state government.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:


  • Answers 800 information line;
  • Responses to all SIC email, "Zendesk" incidents, and real-time chats;
  • Provides accurate information to answer questions regarding all aspects of state, federal, and local government agencies;
  • Directs individuals to the appropriate agency/agencies that can provide the customer with more detailed information if necessary;
  • Assist State Government Center "Walk-in" customers;
  • Prepares and mails packets (general business start-up inquiries, student packets, Department of Revenue, etc.);
  • Performs other related duties as required.

What Is Needed For Success:

  • Must be fluent in Spanish;
  • General knowledge of all state agencies and state government operations;
  • General knowledge of state, local, federal agencies;
  •  Provide general information to assist small business start-ups;
  • Specific knowledge of all state agencies; 
  • Ability to recall detailed facts regarding state programs, multitasking is a priority; 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills;
  • Active listening and non-threatening communication skills;
  • Quality customer service principles;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Specialized knowledge of the program area;
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations pertaining to the assigned program area and its effects upon other agency operations;
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, laws and overall agency policies;
  • Ability to do research and to compile gathered materials;
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing;
  • Ability to operate effectively in a group decision-making process;
  • Tact in dealing with other agency personnel and the public.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
