Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,000 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.


About the Job:

The Staff Accountant performs moderately complex accounting functions which include assistance in maintaining the general ledger, financial analysis, and supporting accounts payable.

A Day in the Life:

•    Reviews daily bank activity and ensures transactions are recorded appropriately;
•    Reconciles accounts payable and prize liability accounts;
•    Tracks investments for deferred prizes and completes reconciliation of corresponding asset and liability accounts;
•    Researches reconciling items timely and initiates correcting journal entries;
•    Prepares reoccurring monthly journal entries; 
•    Monitors prepaid expenses and records monthly expense accruals;
•    Coordinates with executive staff to forecast departmental budgets;
•    Assists management in annual budget preparation;
•    Prepares monthly financial analysis statements for Controller and Chief of Staff;
•    Reviews scratch game orders and production loads for accuracy;
•    Audits reimbursable vendor expenses;
•    Prepares wire transfer documents for distributing Surplus Revenue to the Lottery Surplus Fund;
•    Completes annual unclaimed property review, including sending and monitoring due diligence letters, reissuing payments, and reporting property to the state;
•    Compiles information and prepares analyses as necessary in preparation for fiscal year end audit;
•    Prepares and keeps job related procedures up to date;
•    Stays abreast of technology and software developments to maximize area’s efficiency and security;
•    Assists annually with Accounting departmental duties at the Indiana State Fair, held in August;
•    Performs other related duties as required.


What You'll Need for Success:

•    Bachelor’s degree in accounting, financial management, business administration or related area; 
•    Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
•    Specialized knowledge of accounting and/or banking theories, principles and practices;
•    Ability to organize and prioritize work;
•    Working knowledge of computerized accounting systems;
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is a must
