Hire Salary: The anual salary for this position is $68,458.

About the job:

This position is intended to manage the resources of the MIS division and support the IT systems and function of the Indiana State Library and its initiatives throughout the state. General technical competencies assigned to this position include a thorough understanding of operating systems, system maintenance, Windows/UNIX administration, programming, networking principles, backup and security functions, and database administration. The position currently focuses most of its time on Evergreen Indiana, the state's open source Integrated Library System; INSPIRE, Indiana's virtual library; and SRCS, the Statewide Remote Circulation System.

A day in the life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

The MIS Supervisor is the primary developer for the Evergreen Indiana integrated library system, including maintenance, purchase, and repair of servers, database usage analysis, reporting, and the final tier of technical support to all Evergreen Indiana member libraries.

Other duties include:

Technical support for other large scale library initiatives such as INSPIRE and SRCS;

Travel in-state for meetings relating to the programs supported;

Potential out-of-state travel to meetings for training related to or to the benefit of the programs supported;

Making final purchase decisions on hardware to operate the Evergreen Indiana library system and ConnectIN web hosting service;

What we're looking for:

Working knowledge of new systems design techniques, information technology equipment, operation and capabilities;

• Advanced knowledge of information systems design principles;

• Advanced knowledge of application development software languages;

• Advanced knowledge of policies, standards, procedures, and techniques used for application development;

• Advanced knowledge of application development software tools;

• Advanced knowledge of information technology equipment, operation, and capabilities;

• Advanced knowledge of both system and library applications and competent to work on most phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities of those systems;

• Ability to perform logical problem solving and analysis;

• Effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.
