Role Overview

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) is the State of Indiana's lead economic development agency. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation is committed to attracting and supporting new business investment, creating new jobs for Hoosiers, and furthering our legacy as one of the top states in the nation for business. 

  

The IEDC is offering an exciting and challenging opportunity to work for the state and to learn through hands-on experience as well as through planned engagements with the Governor of Indiana, Secretary of Commerce and leadership at the IEDC. The program will be 12 weeks long (May 12 through August 1) and 65% of the program will be day to day work dictated by the Intern Coordinator, 25% will be dedicated to the special project which will be presented by the Intern team at the end of the program, and 10% will be other engagements which include lunch & learns, meetings, tours and study reports.

 

Salary Statement

The salary for this position is $18/hour for a 40-hour work week.

 

A Day in the Life:

 

Entrepreneurship Program Management

  • Assist in overseeing statewide programs and initiatives to meet organizational strategic goals
  • Assist in creation and maintenance of program policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
  • Assist in management of statewide contractors and partner relationships
  • Participate in planning and execution of various meetings and events, including creation of reports, agendas, and logistics
  • Assist in internal and external stakeholder outreach regarding IEDC’s entrepreneurship and innovation programming 

 

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Assist with economic impact analysis and reporting for programming
  • Conduct audits of invoices, reports, and CRM data 
  • Coordinate analysis and tracking of program and initiative reporting including performance metrics, financial metrics, and impact

 

Communications, Marketing, and Outreach

  • Assist in the development and implementation of communication plans for programs, events, and partnerships
  • Support program initiatives with marketing collateral development including, copy, press releases, one-pagers, web pages, emails, etc. 
  • Assist in planning of events, trainings, stakeholder meetings, etc. with internal and external stakeholders

 

Templates/resource Material Development:

  • Assist in refresh of program collateral and templates 
  • Creating/updating training and informational presentations
  • Creating job aids/guides for internal use

 

Research:

  • Research and compile documents for potential grant opportunities to support Indiana entrepreneurs and small businesses
  • Research and compile recommendations for entrepreneurship and innovation programming based on peer organizations and ecosystem gaps 

 

Special Project

  • Every Hoosier Economic Intern will work closely with an IEDC team member to further the mission of the IEDC. The Hoosier Economic Intern team will brainstorm together to envision a joint project to better the State of Indiana and collaborate throughout the summer to detail a plan to make the vision a reality. The Intern team will present the final project at the end of the program.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, political science, public administration or a related field
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to multitask
  • Strong sense of time management with the ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple projects with varying levels of importance
  • Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
     

 

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
