About the Indiana Educational Resource Center (IERC):
The Indiana Educational Resource Center at the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired produces and maintains a statewide, centralized repository of accessible education materials (AEMs) for school-age students who are blind, visually impaired, have low vision, or have other documented print disabilities. Materials are provided at no cost to eligible students and are on loan to the ordering local education agencies. Formats include digital, Braille, large print, tangible aids, and equipment. The IERC also houses and manages the Braille Transcription Project initiative which produces instructional materials for local school systems and education agencies.
Role Overview:
Incumbent works during the summer months in the Indiana Educational Resource Center (IERC) statewide depository. The IERC provides educational materials in accessible formats for school-age students with visual impairments. The incumbent is responsible for the receipt and preparation of returned specialized instructional materials, aids, and equipment for returns to the library collection. The incumbent is also responsible for the shipping, receiving, and preparation of materials to the schools in the state of Indiana. Incumbent reports to the Director of the Indiana Educational Resource Center.
The IERC is located at IPS School 83, 5050 E. 42nd Street, Indianapolis, IN 46226.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $0.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
- Organize returned boxes by school district.
- Open boxes and inspect contents for damage.
- Sort the contents of the received boxes.
- Clean equipment and textbooks.
- Identify and repair damaged volumes and equipment using established repair methods.
- Organize braille and large print volumes into numerical order, bundle, prepare a shelf tag, and place it on a cart to send to the shipping clerk for check-in.
- Retrieve inventory from the shelf using computer-generated lists and prepare materials for shipment.
- Ship braille, large print, and equipment per IERC shipping procedure.
- Access inventory and shipping data from the library automation system and prepare packing slips as needed.
- Label new inventory, textbooks, aides, and equipment, as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need for Success:
- Fluent in the English language.
- Ability to use office equipment, including binding, copier, bundler, and computer.
- Working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel computer software.
- Ability to organize effectively, perform more than one task at a time with minimal errors, and attend to a high level of detail.
- Ability to perform work within tight timelines.
- Ability to problem solve effectively.
- Ability to organize workload for maximum work efficiency and perform duties of the job with minimal input from immediate supervisor.

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
