Role Overview:
The Youth Program Manager is responsible for managing all informal youth-related programming including homeschool programs, school-age camps, scout programs and youth public programs for the Indiana State Museum. Responsibilities include identifying strategic growth opportunities, cultivating relationships with families, homeschool co-ops, scout organizations and community organizations and marketing programs. The incumbent is also responsible for assisting in the facilitation of school-based programs and supporting other programs within the department.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,560.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
- Oversee the development, training, implementation and evaluation of all youth-related programming for the Indiana State Museum.
- Research, develop, and facilitate programs and curriculum for homeschool and scouting audiences that align with evaluation data and ISMHS objectives
- Analyze and research trends in youth-related programming for changing needs and interests of the audiences and to take advantage of new opportunities for the museum
- Work with the camp program manager to ensure that camp programs are meeting the goals for campers, guardians, and the museum
- Assist the camp program manager with writing camp curriculum and facilitating camp programs for school-aged camps. Camps occur during fall, winter and spring break as well as summer.
- Connect and collaborate with local and regional youth-serving individuals and organizations
- Purchase, maintain, and prepare materials & supplies for youth programs. This includes preparing the curriculum, supplies, check-in sheets, and program space before/after the program. Assist with camp preparation and materials as needed.
- Evaluate all youth programming on a consistent and regular basis using both observational data and surveys. Use data to adjust activities and curriculum as needed
- Use the reservation system to monitor youth program registrations, to create rosters and other reports
- Manage and track youth programs budget. Work with camp program manager to ensure budget is also managed and tracked
- Work with the Vice President of Engagement to align and implement goals, objectives and learning outcomes with department goals and programs
- Work with the development team for youth program grants, including collecting and compiling data, assisting with writing grant reports, and overseeing spending and tracking of grant budget.
- Work with marketing and communications staff to develop and implement a marketing plan for all youth programs
- Teach school programs and assist with special school and public programs
- Travel to offsite school programs and special events as needed
- Other duties as assigned
What You'll Need for Success:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or relevant work experience
- Must have formal and/or informal teaching experience with youth
- Excellent communication and customer service while interacting with youth and adults of all ages, abilities and backgrounds
- Must be a team player
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends and long program days during camp season
- Ability to research and write programs, reports, and evaluations
- Ability to work well and collaborate with other team members to create a unified program experience for all participants
- Ability to accept constructive feedback and respond effectively to program evaluations
- Strong organizational, critical, and detailed thinking, analysis and networking skills
- Familiarity with ADA compliance rules and procedures and awareness of cultural sensitivity issues
- Travel required in local, regional, and statewide area
- Have a current Indiana driving license
