Role Overview:
The Senior Systems Administrator (Software Distribution) manages enterprise software distribution and modernization for thousands of endpoints across the State of Indiana environment. You will focus on packaging, testing, and deploying applications using enterprise tools such as Microsoft Intune, SCCM, and related endpoint management platforms. You will work closely with security, ServiceNow, and agency stakeholders to ensure approved software is delivered in a controlled, secure, and repeatable manner while maintaining compliance with state standards and policies. This role is also key to improving the software lifecycle process, including catalog management, packaging standards, and automated deployment workflows aligned with the IOT service model.
This role supports enterprise workstation environments used across multiple state agencies. Work may occasionally occur outside of standard business hours to support scheduled software deployments, maintenance windows, or large-scale rollout events. The standard IOT maintenance window for workstation-related changes typically occurs during weekend deployment cycles to minimize business disruption.
This role requires that you understand large-scale endpoint environments, can improve existing deployment processes, and are comfortable operating in a structured enterprise environment with stringent security and change management requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining application packages.
- Managing deployment rings and pilot testing.
- Troubleshooting failed deployments.
- Coordinating with Security and Archer approval processes.
- Supporting the transition from legacy deployment models to modern cloud-based device management.
This is an onsite position at the Indiana Government Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $70,122 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:
Technical Support
- Test, debug, and document system software upgrades and new releases, which may include program design and coding.
- Evaluate new and existing software products.
- Implement operating system enhancements to improve system reliability and performance.
- Design, develop, modify, and maintain complex system software using releases and utilities.
Project Management
- Assign staff to various projects, direct their activities, and evaluate their work.
- May perform as team lead or project manager in assigned areas.
- May oversee multiple projects or project phases.
Communication/Collaboration
- Mentor and provide guidance to new and lower-level staff.
- Confer with department management to assist in planning, organizing, and controlling activities of assigned areas.
System Administration
- Ensure long-term requirements of systems operations and administration, including overall systems planning.
- Install, maintain, and configure computer softwared and ensure the integrity of its components.
- Conduct quality assurance review of system software.
- Define system software and hardware requirements.
Planning & Budgeting
- Ensure long-term requirements of systems operations and administration, including overall systems planning.
- Confer with department management to assist in planning, organizing, and controlling activities of assigned areas.
Problem-Solving:
- Analyze complex IT issues and develop innovative solutions.
- Implement best practices for system reliability, performance, and security.
- Manage crisis situations and ensure quick resolution of critical incidents.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
Credentials:
- Master’s Degree in Computer Technology or related field and 1+ years of experience, or
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Technology or related field and 3+ year of experience, or
- Associate's Degree in Computer Technology or related field and 5+ years of experience, or
- 7+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
- Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.
Required skills:
- Demonstrated ability to package and deploy applications using tools such as Intune, SCCM, or similar enterprise endpoint management platforms.
- Ability to diagnose deployment failures, dependency issues, and packaging errors while improving processes through scripting and automation.
- Ability to coordinate with security teams, application owners, and service management teams to move software through approval, packaging, and deployment pipelines.
Additional qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of information technology system including software, hardware and their impact on the various components.
- Thorough knowledge of policies, standards, procedures and techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of information technology equipment, operation and capabilities. Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others.
- Ability to develop and execute system backup and recovery procedures and plans.
- Ability to work with other information technology support staff to develop capacity planning.
- Thorough knowledge of installation, maintenance, configuration of system software and system operating systems.
- Thorough knowledge in the use of tools and utilities to perform the system work.
- Thorough knowledge of designing, coding, testing, debugging and documenting system software components.
- Thorough knowledge in performance and tuning techniques.
