Role Overview:
The incumbent serves as the Senior Workforce Project Director within the Performance and Innovation Department of DWD’s workforce division. This position is responsible for managing large-scale workforce development projects while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Key responsibilities include strategic planning, stakeholder collaboration, program evaluation, and performance measurement to improve the effectiveness of workforce programs and align them with labor market needs.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Workforce Project Planning:
- Oversee multiple workforce projects to ensure alignment with state economic objectives and labor market goals.
- Coordination with DWD's Research and Analysis Unit to ensure alignment of work across the agency and available DWD resourses.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply federal and state programs and regulations as provided by the department of labor and other federal and state entities involved in workforce development.
- Research, manage, and develop project scope, timelines, deliverables, and resource allocation.
- Identify and mitigate project risks while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Develop and manage project budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness and financial sustainability.
- Track program effectiveness using key performance indicators and labor market data.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Workforce Program Evaluation and Performance:
- Design and implemention of workforce program evaluations and frameworks to assess the effectiveness of workforce programs and services.
- Analyze program data, labor market trends, and participant outcomes to identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators to measure the success of workforce initiatives.
- Prepare detailed reports and recommendations for leadership.
- Utilize feedback from program evaluations to inform department leadership of opportunities for policy changes and operational improvements.
- Stakeholder and Interagency Collaboration:
- Build relationships with employers, government agencies, educational institutions, and community organizations.
- Collaborate with workforce and industry leaders.
- Represent the organization in public forums, advisory committees, and policy discussions.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- Eight (8) years of project management experience OR Associate’s Degree and six (6) years of project management experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of project management experience.
- Certification as a Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute or a similar professional designation, desired
- Ability to manage projects of relatively high complexity and dollar value.
- Ability to engage and communicate information with internal and external stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to plan project scope and schedule consistent with the project development process.
- Ability to establish and manage project budget with the understanding of all financial implications/issues.
- Specialized knowledge of project standards.
- Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
- Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
- Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

- Successful completion of Purdue’s Project Management Essentials Course after 12 months but before 24 months of employment.
