Role Overview 

The Senior Elementary Mathematics Specialist takes an active leadership role in developing strategies, making decisions, and solving problems to accomplish program objectives within the bounds of established policies and regulations. You must be well-versed in Indiana K-6 Mathematics Standards and related pedagogy. The Specialist is expected to remain current on Elementary-level Mathematics trends and the Mathematics landscape, including related initiatives, policies, and standards.  You may serve as a team lead for one or more assigned work groups.

 

Preferred credentials and experience include:

  • Earned master’s degree in education (or related field) with at least eight years of classroom teaching experience in Mathematics (K-8 preferred).
  • Experience implementing current IDOE mathematics instructional and assessment resources.
  • Experience developing and delivering professional development and presentations to various stakeholder groups.
  • Experience developing and/or utilizing a Multi-Tiered System of Support with students of all ability levels.
  • Experience analyzing data to inform instructional decision-making and enhance teaching practices.


Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67,314.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

 

The essential functions of this role are:

  • Develop and monitor education program/initiative objectives, outcomes, and actions to achieve agency goals. 
  • Direct, plan, or implement policies, objectives, or activities within educational institutions to increase institutional effectiveness. 
  • Interpret and explain policies, rules, regulations, or laws to educational institutions and the constituents within.
  • Recommend and direct strategic action to address program gaps and opportunities. 
  • Prepare and analyze reports, including those requesting funding or implementation of programmatic services. 
  • Direct or coordinate the financial or budget activities to fund educational programs or increase the efficiency of specified programs. 
  • Develop or train educators or agency consultants on program requirements and usage. 
  • Serve on boards and committees to provide insight on program highlights and trends. 
  • Ensure program requirements adhere to federal and state policies and grant compliance. 
  • May recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development. 
  • May set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
  • Some essential functions of this position may be performed onsite at the agency’s worksite or other assigned worksites while some essential functions of this position may be eligible for work-from-home authorization per policy. Remote work authorization is not automatic and is dependent upon operational needs and agency approval.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

 

Credentials:

  • Master’s Degree and at least 2+ years of experience in related fields of study or expertise, or
  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 4+ years of experience in related fields of study or expertise, or
  • 8+ years of experience in a related field of expertise.
  • Active Indiana teaching license preferred.

 

Additional qualifications:

  • Specialized knowledge in educational systems obtained through experience and/or education. 
  • Extensive knowledge of educational programs and services and what their role is in educational institutions.
  • Extensive knowledge of all source materials and references including federal and state laws governing the programs. 
  • Ability to develop and implement new principles and policies and discern any far-reaching implications. 
  • Ability to present to both internal and external customers, the public, government officials, and other stakeholders. 
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems. 
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders. 
  • Ability to prepare monthly finance and accounting reports to maintain program budget and grants. 
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow. 
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
